"Thoughts and prayers" are not enough

It's on each and every one of us to come together and do everything we can to ensure appalling events like the one in Parkland are a thing of the past.

Pat -- Tomorrow will mark the one-year anniversary of one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history. Many thought 17 innocent lives lost in Parkland, Florida would be a tipping point, yet the resounding response from Trump and NRA-backed politicians has been to do nothing. Since the horrific massacre at Stoneman Douglas, at least 1,200 children and teens have died at the hands of senseless gun violence. 1,200 deaths -- and no meaningful action by our elected officials, Pat. We must do everything we can to elect Democrats who will help bring an end to gun violence -- and it's going to take continuous, early investments to even come close to helping Democrats win against the gun lobby. So I am coming to you with an urgent request: Will you make a $3 monthly sustaining contribution to the Democratic Party's One-Term President Fund to replace Trump and NRA-backed Republicans with Democratic leaders who will prioritize the American people over gun lobbies? Each election cycle the NRA spends tens of millions of dollars to defeat candidates who are willing to stand up to their dangerous agenda. In 2016, the NRA spent more to help elect Donald Trump than any other candidate in history, Pat. There's no surprise that so many Republicans owe their elections to the gun lobby and in return oppose virtually all commonsense gun safety legislation. It's absolutely incumbent on each and every one of us to come together and do everything we can to ensure appalling events like the one in Parkland are a thing of the past. I don't want to have to send emails like this anymore about Republicans standing in the way of commonsense gun safety laws. But that day won't come until more people like you say enough is enough. Make a $3 monthly sustaining donation to the Democratic Party's One-Term President Fund to elect Democrats at the local, state, and federal level who will pass legislation to keep us safe from gun violence.
