Pat -- When I went to my first nonviolent demonstration in 1960, people poured hot coffee down our backs, spit on us, and called us names that no person should ever be called. We were thrown in jail and left beaten and bloodied -- but we never gave up. The battles we fought then are still going on today. From voting rights to civil rights and LGBTQ rights, our struggle to build a more equitable America is far from won. Democrats nationwide are fighting for our fundamental beliefs of inclusion, opportunity, and dignity for all. It's clear we cannot afford to slow down -- not even for a second, which is why I have to ask: Will you make a $3 donation to the Democratic Party today to show that you're ready to keep fighting for progress? Every contribution made will go directly toward electing diverse Democratic leaders from the school board to the White House who will work tirelessly to defend our shared values. Over the past 60 years, I've been on the front lines participating in sit-ins that desegregated lunch counters, organizing activist movements like the March on Washington, and challenging segregation at interstate bus terminals across the South. During that time, I've witnessed our nation undergo a revolutionary political and spiritual transformation. This past election, voters chose a new vision of what our nation stands for, electing the most diverse slate of candidates in our country's history. It's no question that our party is stronger when women, people of color, immigrants, and LGBTQ people bring their experiences and perspectives to our government -- and our country is a richer and more vibrant place because of it. Democrats like you and I are on the front lines, choosing action in the face of adversity. We know that in order to put our country back on track and restore some sanity to our politics, we have to get in the way, make some noise, and get into what I like to call, "good, necessary trouble." So what do you say, Pat? Can you contribute $3 to show you're committed to electing bold and courageous Democratic leaders who aren't afraid to stand up and speak out for what is right? Any amount you contribute will go a long way. Thank you, John John Lewis U.S. Representative, GA-05 |
