 Hi, Pat, I'm Lucy, and I was elected to represent Georgia's 6th Congressional District. Just six years ago, I was working as a Delta flight attendant when I got a phone call that no parent should ever have to receive. It was the day after Thanksgiving when I learned my son Jordan was shot while sitting in a car with a group of his friends because "their music was too loud." My life today, in no way, shape, or form, resembles my life before Jordan was taken from us. His death unleashed the most unfathomable events that helped revive the activist inside of me. I decided to run for Congress because I knew I had to choose action in the face of adversity and advocate for commonsense gun safety legislation. I'm proud to have been elected alongside fellow Democratic members who are fighting to do the same. Make a $3 contribution to stand with Democrats who will stand strong against the gun lobby. This is about communities of color being forced to live with traumatic experiences. It's about whether we have to live in fear of our neighbors and community members. While marches, rallies, and national debates are great ways to start dialogues on gun violence, the most effective way to create change is by electing leaders who will make this country safer. Democrats have consistently been on the front lines advocating for commonsense solutions like universal background checks, restrictions on assault weapons, and funding the Center for Disease Control to do research on gun violence. It's well past time we start treating this national epidemic like the public health crisis it is.
