Two weeks ago, I had the privilege of interviewing President Barack Obama about some of his thoughts on 2020 and this Democratic presidential primary process. He made a lot of important points during our discussion, and since you're one of our party's most committed supporters, I wanted to be sure you heard exactly what he had to say:
"The choice is so stark and the stakes are so high that you cannot afford to be ambivalent in this race."
During our conversation, President Obama made sure to emphasize the value of party unity throughout this primary process. I couldn't agree more, Pat -- we simply must be ready to rally behind whoever voters choose as our Democratic nominee. I'm excited by our Democratic presidential primary candidates and the spirited debates they've had about how best to move our nation forward -- and I'm proud that each of them has committed to supporting our eventual nominee, whoever she or he is.
Barack Obama also took the opportunity to remind us of the stakes in this election. There is so much riding on Democratic victory in 2020, Pat, and we have so much work left to do. We'll need to build the strongest DNC in recent history ahead of the general election -- a world-class field organizing team, top-of-the-line data and technology, and a voter protection infrastructure that's prepared to take on the GOP's insidious voter suppression agenda and fight for every vote. To accomplish all of that, our party will be leaning on supporters like you to support the Democratic Unity Fund.
President Obama teamed up with the DNC to launch the Democratic Unity Fund earlier this year because he knows how important a strong Democratic Party will be to our future nominee and Democrats nationwide. He called on you to support the Democratic Unity Fund, but you still have yet to make a contribution directly to the fund. That's why I'm urging you to answer Barack Obama's call today.
Please make a $7 contribution to the Democratic Unity Fund. Your gift will immediately be put to work building the strong DNC our eventual nominee for president and Democrats nationwide will depend on to win.
Thank you for joining this effort,
Tom

P.S. President Obama knows a thing or two about how to win a big election -- and he knows as well as you and I do that 2020 is going to be the toughest fight of our lifetimes. We'll need all hands on deck if we're going to win, Pat, which is why he's asking you to support the Democratic Unity Fund with a $7 contribution today.
