My name is Nellwyn Thomas, and I'm the Chief Technology Officer at the DNC. Since you're an important member of the Democratic Party, Pat, I wanted to take a moment to report on what the DNC Tech Team is doing to provide Democrats up and down the ballot with the data, tools, and infrastructure needed to win elections in November.
A November victory will take all of us -- candidates, grassroots supporters, and the DNC -- working together. Crucial to this effort is the DNC Tech Team's work to provide all Democratic campaigns with key data, reliable data infrastructure, training to combat disinformation, and more. Read on to learn what DNC Tech is doing right now to build a strong foundation for all Democratic campaigns nationwide -- then, donate $7 to support critical programs like these that will be instrumental to our success in November.
BETTER DATA FOR CAMPAIGNS
Campaigns rely on data about voters to make sure they are speaking to every potential voter with their message as effectively as possible. The DNC provides the centralized dataset, across all 50 states, that powers those voter targeting programs. If you've ever sent a text, made a call, or knocked on a door on behalf of a campaign, this is the data that helped inform which voters to contact.
The DNC has unique access to historical campaign data from previous election cycles -- millions of data points on volunteer engagement, canvassing responses, and event participation ranging from school board elections to presidential campaigns. This provides a rich view of each voter over time, and helps time-bound campaigns learn from their predecessors.
But we aren't just relying on old information -- we're strengthening that data to make it as effective as possible for reaching voters. To that end, the DNC just acquired tens of millions more cell phone numbers -- data that, just like any data we acquire or enhance, will flow to Democratic campaigns up and down the ballot and across the country. These cell phone numbers will allow campaigns to reach younger voters and transient voters more effectively. This is just one example of how DNC Tech adds value at scale.
BUILDING DATA OPERATIONS IN BATTLEGROUND STATES
As part of our investment in battleground states in advance of the general election, in partnership with our amazing state party partners, we're hiring and training data directors to support coordinated campaigns in key states.
These positions will be focused on establishing systems for clean, consistent data collection, supporting states in making strategic resource allocation and targeting decisions, and developing reporting to measure progress and inform strategic adjustments over time. Together, these efforts will ensure the eventual nominee can seamlessly kick off their general election campaign.
PROTECTING AGAINST CYBERSECURITY AND DISINFORMATION ATTACKS
We've already seen an escalation in malicious activity and disinformation, and these coordinated attacks are only expected to escalate as the general election nears. That's why DNC Tech is working tirelessly to improve the security posture of the Democratic ecosystem.
We run trainings, send regular newsletters and alerts, and field security questions from the national to the local level. In addition to providing disinformation monitoring and alerts to presidential campaigns, our counter-disinformation team has been working closely with each presidential campaign to train their teams to identify and respond to disinformation.
HELPING PEOPLE VOTE
To win in the general election, we need to make sure that people are empowered to vote and that each vote is counted. Together with the DNC Mobilization team and state party partners, we run IWillVote.com, the go-to website for polling location and voter registration info.
DNC Tech also monitors for voting registration purges -- like the one that happened in Kentucky in 2019. With the DNC's backing, the Kentucky Democratic Party was able to file suit and reinstate 175,000 voters back onto the active roll in time for Election Day.
I appreciate you taking some time out of your busy day to read about what the Democratic Party is doing to build the data infrastructure needed to take on Trump and the GOP this year. In so many cases, down-ballot campaigns rely on the DNC as a foundational resource to run data-driven campaigns. The DNC is the only official party organization tasked with helping elect Democrats from the local office to the Oval Office. Your support today is crucial to fortifying the party's tech and data infrastructure to win elections in November.
Make a $7 donation to the DNC today to help position Democrats come Election Day. Critical programs like these can only happen with the support of grassroots Democrats like you.
Thanks again for taking the time to read about what DNC Tech is doing to win this year, Pat. I couldn't be more grateful to have you on this team.
Cheers,
Nellwyn
