 Hi, Pat, I'm Deb Haaland, and I was elected to represent New Mexico's 1st Congressional District in 2018. I'm honored and humbled to have made history this past November by becoming one of the first two Native American women to serve in Congress. After more than 200 years of not having representation, Native women finally have a seat at the table -- and I couldn't be more proud. The diversity of our newly sworn-in Democratic members is truly astonishing. This groundbreaking, glass-shattering class is making history, so it's not an exaggeration when I say it really does matter whose voices are being heard. When women, people of color, immigrants, and LGBTQ people bring their experiences and perspectives to our government, we see inclusive legislation that lifts up all Americans. Our new Democratic Congress has only been in session for a short time and we've already made important strides -- but we still have our work cut out for us. Look no further than Trump's willingness to hold the paychecks of more than 800,000 federal workers hostage and then declare a national emergency all for an ineffective, unnecessary border wall. Now, more than ever, we need Democratic leaders from the halls of Congress to the local school board who will put a real check on an administration that has gone off the rails. So I am coming to you directly: Sunday at midnight the Democratic Party faces its critical end-of-quarter fundraising deadline. Will you make a $3 donation to elect Democrats up and down the ballot? While Trump defends his "national emergency," the real crisis we're battling is lack of access to affordable health care, the devastating effects of climate change, and government-enforced family separation policies that are beyond inhumane. That's why there's never been a more important time to build the infrastructure it will take to continue electing Democrats who will fight for solutions that work for everyone. Chip in $3 before Sunday's end-of-quarter fundraising deadline to elect Democrats who are leading with our values and empowering people from diverse backgrounds to lead and make our voices heard.
