For me, it's my son

I'll never forget the look in my son's eyes on the morning of November 9, 2016.
I'll never forget the look in my son's eyes on the morning of November 9, 2016.

Like all of us, I woke up devastated -- but even more difficult was having to explain to my then 11-year-old son what had happened. As his shock turned to fear, he refused to go to school that day, afraid of what this country had become. No mother ever wants to experience the powerlessness of when her children see that the bullies can win, yet as I looked into my son's eyes that morning, that's exactly how I felt.

At that moment I knew, as a mother and as a woman who cares deeply about the future our children will inherit, the country our children will inherit, I had to do everything I could to set our country back on the right course -- and that meant fighting to elect Democrats. It is one of the reasons why I chose to come to lead the DNC, and why I am hopeful and proud of the work our party is doing to lay a strong foundation for our eventual Democratic nominee and for candidates across the country.

This Sunday at midnight, the Democratic Party faces one of the most critical milestones in the fight to defeat Donald Trump and the GOP: Our very first end-of-quarter deadline of 2019. The DNC is the only party committee officially tasked with electing a Democrat to the White House next year, so your support before our first end-of-quarter deadline of 2019 couldn't be more important. That's why I'm asking you:

Donate $3 to the DNC before Sunday at midnight to help our party fund the essential programs it will take to defeat Trump and Republicans next year. Any amount you can give will make a tremendous difference in our fight.

The Democratic Party knew we couldn't afford to wait until 2020 to start the tremendous amount of work it'll take to prepare for the general election.

So we didn't.

The DNC has already launched some of the most ambitious and groundbreaking programs our party has ever undertaken -- and we've started many of them earlier in a presidential cycle than ever before. Here's some of what we're doing to prepare for the coming months:
  • Organizing Corps 2020 is the DNC's answer to Trump's 2016 victories in key battleground states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania -- states we narrowly lost. This program will recruit, train, and pay homegrown field organizers to mobilize their communities starting this summer. Applications to this program are already rolling in, so it's urgent that we raise the funds required to power this immensely important program that our eventual 2020 nominee will rely on to build a best-in-class field team.
  • Protecting the right to vote will be critical to winning seats across the country in 2019, 2020, and the years ahead. If folks can't vote, Democrats simply can't win. That's why the DNC will continue running our national voter hotline this year and next year to assist those who have questions or concerns while registering to vote or casting their ballot.
Democratic victory next year won't be possible without a strong DNC, and the success of programs like these is entirely dependent on whether or not we can fund them -- which is why our party absolutely has to hit our critical end-of-quarter fundraising goal before this Sunday.

This quarter's fundraising goal isn't arbitrary. It's a carefully calculated benchmark we must reach to properly fund the work the DNC is doing to build a party infrastructure that'll be strong enough to compete with Trump and Republicans. The DNC is a majority grassroots-funded organization, which is why making your first contribution of 2019 before Sunday's deadline will make a tangible difference in whether we can hit our goal and in the outcome of the 2020 election.

Will you make a $3 contribution before Sunday at midnight to help reach our end-of-quarter goal? Your donation will be put straight to work funding the Democratic Party's efforts to win the White House and seats nationwide in 2020.

Our goal is high, but I believe we can reach it if we come together -- not once in my time as CEO of the Democratic Party have I ever had to question the remarkable strength of this grassroots team.

Yours in the fight,

Seema
