Let me explain what I call the "Accordion Model," and why the DNC is doing things differently this cycle

Building a party infrastructure that'll be strong enough to compete with Trump and Republicans won't happen unless we start now, while it's still early in the cycle.

DemocratsJoin us.
Pat, this Sunday at midnight marks one of the most critical milestones in our race to defeat Donald Trump and Republicans next year. That is why I'm reaching out directly to our most committed supporters like you to explain why making your very first donation of 2019 right now, before Sunday's end-of-quarter deadline, has never been more important.

First, would you take a look at this chart? It illustrates how the Democratic Party's grassroots supporters have been donating over the past year:

DNC Donations
As you may expect, our party's peak fundraising months were the ones right before Election Day -- but since then, we've seen a steep drop-off.

That tracks with what we've seen in past election cycles, but here's the absolute truth: The DNC is trying to do 2020 differently than any past election. This time around our party can't afford to take a year or even a month off before gearing up for the fight of our lifetimes: Beating Trump and the RNC's machine in 2020.

In years past, the DNC was forced to operate under what I like to call the "Accordion Model," expanding in presidential election years and then shrinking back down in the years in between. All that changes this year: With all that's at stake in 2020 and beyond, there can be no more "off-years." Executing our grand vision -- building a party infrastructure that'll be strong enough to compete with Trump and Republicans -- won't happen unless we start now, while it's still early in the cycle. And that will require each and every one of us on this grassroots team to come together to hit this quarter's critical fundraising goal before this Sunday at midnight.

If 24 more Democrats from Carrollton step up to make a contribution before Sunday, we'll be able to reach our goal. Your support ahead of this deadline couldn't be more important, Pat, which is why I'm asking:

Will you make a $3 contribution to the Democratic Party before Sunday's midnight deadline? Staying on track to elect a Democratic president and win seats nationwide next year can only happen if we reach this critical end-of-quarter goal.

Our party cannot and will not go back to the same playbook we used ahead of 2016. That's why the DNC has been making unprecedented investments in organizing, tech, and data improvements, while continuing the programs that helped propel Democrats to success in 2018. You're an integral member of this fight, Pat, so I want to make sure you know exactly what the DNC is already doing to win seats from the state house to the White House in 2020:
  • Organizing Corps 2020 is a first-of-its-kind program designed to build our field organizing program in key battleground states -- and we're making this investment earlier than ever before in a presidential cycle. The DNC and our partners will recruit, pay, and train 1,000 homegrown field organizers to mobilize their communities starting this summer, giving our eventual nominee for president access to a world-class field team that'll be ready to hit the ground running in the general election.

  • Overhauling the DNC's tech and data has been one of my highest priorities as chair of our party, and I'm proud to share that last month, the DNC and state parties announced a landmark agreement to improve access to voter data. Unifying our efforts across the entire progressive ecosystem, the Democratic Data Exchange will put our candidates in the best position possible to target voters and win.

  • Mobilizing core constituency groups was critical for our party last cycle, and we're committed to sustaining that momentum by continuing key programs like A Seat at the Table, an initiative to meaningfully engage and organize with Black women; Mujeres Mobilized, a program to engage, empower, and organize alongside Latinas; and New Blue Crew, which aims to mobilize young voters and student leaders. These constituencies are the backbone of our party, and the DNC is dedicated to empowering them as key decision makers in this fight.
Our end-of-quarter fundraising goal is ambitious because our 2020 vision is ambitious -- but I know we can reach it if we all come together now to help fund essential DNC programs like the ones you just read about. All of these big investments, and the many more still to come, will be mission-critical if we hope to build a DNC capable of lifting our eventual Democratic nominee to victory next year. None of this will be possible without the support of dedicated 2016 donors like you.

Our party needs 24 supporters from Carrollton to make a donation before Sunday at midnight in order to hit this goal. I can't overstate the importance of this deadline if we hope to stay on track to defeat Trump and the GOP, so I hope the Democratic Party has earned your support today.

Donate $3 to the DNC before this Sunday's deadline to help reach our party's end-of-quarter goal. Any amount you can afford to give will make a tremendous difference in our fight to elect Democrats nationwide next year.

Thank you for being an integral part of this party, Pat.

P.S. The DNC is the only official party organization tasked with electing a Democratic president, so we can't afford to wait until next year -- or even next month -- to build a strong party infrastructure. No more "Accordion Model." No more "off-years." Donate $3 before Sunday at midnight to help hit our end-of-quarter goal.
