I just got to watch some of our 2020 candidates on the debate stage in Des Moines -- and it was truly something. But, guess what, Pat: At that same moment, Donald Trump was campaigning at his rally in Milwaukee.

Trump has been running for reelection since day one of his presidency. I'm not kidding -- he filed to run for a second term on his inauguration day. You're smart, Pat, so I know I don't have to tell you that by starting his reelection campaign on his first day in office, Trump earned himself one of the largest incumbency advantages in our nation's history.

The Republicans' fundraising machine and Donald Trump's campaign amassed more than $400 million in the last year alone -- and they've been using it to buy a national ground game, thousands of digital ads, and so much more. Now, it's our job to make sure that our eventual nominee and candidates down the ballot don't fall victim to Donald Trump's massive head start.

At DNC HQ, we're working day and night to lay the pavement for our candidates. That means training a fierce group of young organizers in key battleground states, keeping a clean and robust record of Democratic donors nationwide, and supplying campaigns with the latest tools and technology. Our party's ability to do that work depends directly on the amount of support we can gather from Democrats like you. So, I have to ask:

Will you donate $7 to the One-Term President Fund before Donald Trump leaves Milwaukee to show him and his Republican allies that we're ready to elect a Democrat to the Oval Office and win nationwide? Tonight's debate confirmed it again: Any one of our candidates would make a better president than Donald Trump.

No matter who our eventual nominee is, I know that they will be better for our democracy and the American people than our current president. The DNC is the only party committee tasked with winning seats from local office to the Oval Office across the country this year, which is why your early support means so much.

In unity,

Tom
