Less than one week from today, Iowans will caucus to help decide our Democratic nominee for president.
Our Democratic presidential primary candidates are working non-stop to get out the vote, many of them pouring every ounce of effort into winning the early primary and caucus states. But while the candidates are focused on earning the nomination, the DNC is focused on something else: Building the strong party infrastructure we'll need to defeat Donald Trump and the GOP in the general election.
Donald Trump has been campaigning for reelection since the day he took office, and together with the RNC, he's amassed over $400 million in the last year alone. If we're going to have any chance at victory, the DNC will need to be ready to spring into action the moment the general election begins. With under six months until then, our party is investing in the organizing and data infrastructure we'll need to win. That is why we must hit our January fundraising goal if we want to fully implement these programs and put our party in the best position possible.
The team at DNC HQ tells me that if 30 more Democrats in Carrollton make a donation, we'll be on track to hit our goal before Friday at midnight. We can't risk falling short, Pat, so I am asking you to step up today.
Can you donate $7 before Friday's deadline to elect Democrats up and down the ballot? Any amount you donate now, while it's still early enough in the race, will make a bigger impact than that same amount given right before Election Day.
As the 2020 candidates are focused on making their case to primary voters, the DNC is busy preparing for the fight of our lifetimes: Defeating Donald Trump and Republicans.
As a former DNC chair, I can tell you firsthand how much work there is to do between now and July. Every single piece of our 2020 plan -- from investing in our 50-state strategy to building our Data Warehouse -- is pivotal. That's why it's so important that we meet our fundraising goals.
These goals aren't arbitrary. Folks at DNC HQ carefully calculate these benchmarks to budget for the work that must be done to defeat Donald Trump and his massive fundraising operation at the RNC. Your support could mean the difference between winning and losing. So, I have to ask one more time:
Will you be one of 30 more supporters from Carrollton to donate $7 to the DNC before Friday's deadline? If each of us steps up to donate what we can, we can hit this January goal together and stay on pace to defeat Trump and Republicans.
Thank you for your commitment to our party,
Howard
Gov. Howard Dean
Former DNC Chair
79th Governor of Vermont
P.S. I've run for the Democratic nomination for president before, so let me tell you, Pat: This point in the primary is crunch time, and our candidates are laser-focused on earning the nomination. That is why the work the DNC is doing to help Democrats win in the general election is so important. Your gift now, while it's still early, makes an even bigger impact now than it would right before Election Day. Please donate $7 before Friday to help our party stay on track to beat Trump and the GOP this November.
