Pat -- Donald Trump just said he'd keep the government closed for a very long period of time, months or even years, in pursuit of his ridiculous border wall. Today he met with congressional Democrats, including our newly minted speaker, Nancy Pelosi, and announced that he would not sign any spending bill that did not include more than $5 billion for a wall at the border. Let me be very clear: Trump is holding the government hostage. We have to call on Republicans in Congress to stand up to him and put people above politics. So I'm asking you: Add your name right now and demand that Republicans in Congress finally put a check on Trump. Thousands of American families all over the country are reeling from the effects of this shutdown, and it's gone on long enough. House Democrats have already advanced bipartisan spending bills to reopen the government, and now it's up to Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and the GOP to hold up their end of the bargain and govern for the American people. Demand that Republicans put an end to this shutdown right now. Thanks for fighting with us, Pat. Seema Seema Nanda Chief Executive Officer Democratic National Committee P.S. If your friends and family are as outraged at the president holding our government hostage as we are, then please forward this email to them and ask them to add their name too! There's strength in numbers, and we have to show the GOP we're not backing down. |
