Last November, I walked out of the House chamber during a moment of silence after the mass shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas. Today I'd like to take a minute to tell you why. Since I was elected to Congress in 2014, I've attended far too many moments of silence. After each one, nothing else happens. No legislation, no debate. Let me be very clear about something that Republicans would like us to forget: Congress has the power to prevent more mass shootings from happening by passing reasonable gun safety legislation. If Republicans in Congress who are in the pocket of the gun lobby won't do anything to stop these senseless tragedies, it's time to elect Democrats who will. You've donated to the DNC in the past -- thank you. Will you renew your commitment to help elect Democrats who have the courage to take on the gun lobby? Contribute $3 today to ensure our candidates have resources they need to win. Every time a mass shooting happens we tweet out our thoughts and prayers, have a moment of silence, and then go back to business as usual. But I am done being silent, Pat, and the American people are too. After the horrific shooting in Parkland, students across the country raised their voices to demand an end to senseless gun violence. Together we are showing that the days are numbered when Republicans can offer nothing but thoughts and prayers when tragedy strikes. This year's election is our chance to vote them out -- and electing Democrats across the country has never been as important as it is right now. Chip in $3 for the first time this year to make sure Democrats have the resources to organize and defeat the gun lobby in all 50 states. Thanks for your support, Ted Ted Lieu U.S. Representative, CA-33 P.S. We can't end our country's epidemic of gun violence unless we elect Democrats who are prepared to stand up to the gun lobby. Donate $3 right now to elect candidates with the courage to take action on gun violence. |
