I spent years working as a civil rights lawyer before coming to lead the DNC, so I cannot stress this enough, Pat: Fighting to protect every single eligible citizen's right to vote is more than just the right thing to do -- it's critically important to Democratic success in 2019, 2020, and the years ahead. The DNC is already working to invest in programs that will mobilize and protect the rights of as many voters as possible as we speed toward the 2020 election, and doing this work right now -- while it's still early in the race -- will be critical to our success. Since you're an important member of our party, I wanted to reach out directly to share some details of the DNC's plans to fight for every vote: FULL-TIME VOTER PROTECTION HOTLINENo matter how many voters we turn out to the polls, we know Democrats can't win if voters are kept from registering to vote, kicked off the voting rolls, or forced to face barriers when casting their ballots. That's why the DNC invested in a full-time, national English- and Spanish-language voter hotline. The program fielded tens of thousands of calls during the final days of the 2018 election to help Americans check their registration status and determine how, when, and where to vote. Now, we're gearing up to continue that work. We know races up and down the ballot will be won or lost by razor-thin margins, so we have to be ready to defend every American's right to vote.VOTER PROTECTION LAWSUITSThe DNC is proud to have filed and supported litigation challenging unfair and restrictive voting laws in states across the country last cycle, and our party is committed to continuing to step in and demand justice for voters whenever and wherever necessary. The DNC played integral roles in supporting the recount efforts in Florida and Georgia in 2018, and as we move forward, the Democratic Party will be standing at the ready to combat the oldest trick in the Republican playbook: Voter suppression. We are actively litigating cases in states like Florida and Arizona, and your support helps fund those lawsuits that will help ensure that all eligible Americans can vote in 2020.IWILLVOTE CAMPAIGNWhen it comes to voting rights, Democrats know that we have to be playing on offense. That's why, through our IWillVote campaign, we're already laying the groundwork to engage and mobilize record-shattering numbers of Democrats to the polls in our fight for the White House and seats nationwide. The DNC is investing in overhauling our voter data infrastructure and preparing to supply best-in-class technology and digital tools to campaigns and state parties to ensure we reach every voter in every ZIP code, regardless of how "red" or "blue" it may be.These integral programs will be fundamental to the Democratic Party's success in 2019 and 2020 -- they'll also actively improve the strength of our democracy. Pat, I truly couldn't be prouder of the work this team is doing together to preserve a fair and vibrant democracy. Just like our democracy, the Democratic Party is strongest when all of us participate. That requires each of us to make our voices heard, take ownership of our party, and chip in to build the collective strength of our movement. The DNC is the only official party committee tasked with electing a Democratic president and Democrats up and down the ballot, and we're working harder and smarter than ever before to fight for every single vote. The success of our voter protection efforts depends on the support of dedicated 2016 donors like you, which is why I'm asking: Can you make a $3 contribution to the DNC right now to help defend every eligible American's right to vote and ensure that Democrats can win up and down the ballot? It's so important that Democrats stay on offense when it comes to fighting for every vote. Thank you for taking action to strengthen our democracy. Seema Seema Nanda Chief Executive Officer Democratic National Committee P.S. The majority of funding for essential DNC voter protection programs like these comes from grassroots donations like the one you made in 2016. Donate $3 today to support the Democratic Party's voter protection efforts and other crucial programs for 2020. |
