I spent years working as a civil rights lawyer before coming to lead the DNC, so I cannot stress this enough, Pat: Fighting to protect every single eligible citizen's right to vote is more than just the right thing to do -- it's critically important to Democratic success in 2019, 2020, and the years ahead. The DNC is already working to invest in programs that will mobilize and protect the rights of as many voters as possible as we speed toward the 2020 election, and doing this work right now -- while it's still early in the race -- will be critical to our success. Since you're an important member of our party, I wanted to reach out directly to share some details of the DNC's plans to fight for every vote: FULL-TIME VOTER PROTECTION HOTLINE No matter how many voters we turn out to the polls, we know Democrats can't win if voters are kept from registering to vote, kicked off the voting rolls, or forced to face barriers when casting their ballots. That's why the DNC invested in a full-time, national English- and Spanish-language voter hotline. The program fielded tens of thousands of calls during the final days of the 2018 election to help Americans check their registration status and determine how, when, and where to vote. Now, we're gearing up to continue that work. We know races up and down the ballot will be won or lost by razor-thin margins, so we have to be ready to defend every American's right to vote. VOTER PROTECTION LAWSUITS The DNC is proud to have filed and supported litigation challenging unfair and restrictive voting laws in states across the country last cycle, and our party is committed to continuing to step in and demand justice for voters whenever and wherever necessary. The DNC played integral roles in supporting the recount efforts in Florida and Georgia in 2018, and as we move forward, the Democratic Party will be standing at the ready to combat the oldest trick in the Republican playbook: Voter suppression. We are actively litigating cases in states like Florida and Arizona, and your support helps fund those lawsuits that will help ensure that all eligible Americans can vote in 2020. IWILLVOTE CAMPAIGN When it comes to voting rights, Democrats know that we have to be playing on offense. These integral programs will be fundamental to the Democratic Party's success in 2019 and 2020 -- they'll also actively improve the strength of our democracy.
