You've heard Tom talk about the "Accordion Model" before, Pat. But I hope you'll give me a chance to explain why it concerns me most.

In years past, the DNC expanded in presidential election years and contracted in the years in between -- or what Tom likes to call the "Accordion Model." That is, in no small part, because of the number of donations we receive from grassroots supporters like you, Pat. The backbone of our party is sustaining donors -- or folks who give what they can to help make the DNC's work possible on a monthly basis. I want you to take a look at this chart so you can see how they've been donating over the past few months: You can see it clear as day: Grassroots supporters started generous, monthly donations during the last election cycle to help take back the House. Then after we won, a lot of them stopped donating monthly. That may have been fine in past years, but taking back the White House in 2020 is going to be one of the toughest fights of our lives -- so we have to do things differently this election cycle. We cannot slow down or take an "off year" before preparing to defeat Trump and the GOP. The DNC is a grassroots-powered organization, so victory depends on the early support of dedicated members of our party like you. Make a monthly sustaining donation to the Democratic Party today to help support the early investments required to defeat Donald Trump and his allies in 2019 and 2020. We have to start building a strong party infrastructure capable of electing Democrats to the White House and down-ballot right this minute -- not tomorrow, not a month from now, and certainly not in October 2020. We've already launched some groundbreaking initiatives to help Democrats win in the years ahead, but they will only be as impactful as our investment in them. Here are a few examples of DNC programs your monthly contribution would support: Organizing Corps 2020 is a first-of-its-kind program designed to build our field organizing program in key battleground states we narrowly lost in 2016. The DNC and our partners are recruiting, paying, and training hundreds of homegrown organizers to mobilize their communities starting this summer, giving our eventual nominee for president access to a world-class field team that'll be ready to hit the ground running in the general election. The War Room, re-launched and dramatically expanded just this month, is a battleground states-focused research and rapid response unit made up of dozens of research, communications, and mobilization staffers entirely dedicated to getting Trump out of the White House. The War Room is a one-stop shop for state parties, candidates, and activists in battleground states, and will lift up the stories of the families most devastated by Trump's policies -- the stories that matter most. The Data Warehouse is the centerpiece of the Democratic Party's effort to overhaul our data infrastructure. It will improve access to and analysis of voter data and help unify our efforts across the entire progressive ecosystem, putting our candidates in the best position possible to target voters and win elections at every level of government.
