 Hi, I'm Lauren Underwood -- I'm a registered nurse running for Congress in the 14th district of Illinois. I decided to run for office when my Republican Congressman Randy Hultgren voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act and make it harder for people like me who have a pre-existing condition to get coverage. I was really upset. I decided in an instant, it's on. I'm running. If we're going to protect and expand health care access for those who need it most, we must elect a Democratic Congress in 26 days. As a registered nurse, I know this is a matter of life and death for millions of Americans. That's why I'm asking you to help elect Democrats like me at this critical moment. You contributed to the Democratic Party in 2016 -- thank you. Can I count on you to make your first $3 contribution of 2018 to elect Democrats who will work tirelessly to protect access to health care? The fight for health care has always been extremely personal to me. During swim lessons when I was eight years old, I learned I had a condition that occasionally prevents my heart from maintaining a normal rhythm. I'm incredibly lucky to be in good health now -- but will never forget the experience of being in and out of medical offices. Millions of people across the country have stories and conditions like mine -- and millions more struggle to access the care they need due to skyrocketing health care costs. As someone who has both a pre-existing condition and a career in nursing, I am ready to fight in Congress to protect high quality, affordable health care for all. But I can't do it alone, Pat. Taking back the House in November will be essential to defending the Affordable Care Act -- and that all starts with electing Democrats nationwide who will work tirelessly to protect it. Every single one of us deserves access to health care, and no family should ever have to choose between buying groceries and paying medical bills.
