Pat, I hope you had a great Independence Day! I love the 4th of July. Whenever I can, I like to find my way to someone's cookout, grab some BBQ marinated with Cajun hot sauce, share some laughs with friends and neighbors, and catch the fireworks.

But Independence Day is also a day of reflection for me. I think about our Founding Fathers, our veterans and current service members, abolitionists and suffragists, civil rights leaders and activists, and everyone who has fought and bled and sacrificed to protect the rights and freedoms we have today.

And there's no more important right -- nothing more fundamental to our independence -- than the right to vote. It is the right we use to secure all other rights. Protecting the right to vote is our most important responsibility -- and, at this very moment, that right is under attack.

The Trump administration is hard at work -- spending our tax money to investigate completely fictitious claims of "voter fraud" (claims made by Donald Trump himself, and backed up with absolutely no evidence).

Last week, this new commission requested every single American's political party registration and voting history. There's no doubt in my mind why: they're setting the stage for a massive purge of the voter rolls, all in an attempt to disenfranchise working people, people of color, students, first-generation Americans, and seniors.

I don't have to tell you that Donald Trump has zero credibility when it comes to protecting our rights or the integrity of our elections. There's no telling how much damage this latest scheme could do to our democracy.

We have to stand up and protect our access to the ballot box right now -- we can't risk doing nothing and hoping for the best, Pat. Add your name if you're committed to protecting our democracy:

Thanks for taking a stand,
