Watch Krista's story, and then make your voice heard. Tell Senate Republicans to protect affordable health care. Pat -- There's a lot that goes into life as a single mom with limited income, but my biggest issue has always been health care. I have three beautiful children -- nine, seven, and six -- and thankfully all of them have been on Medicaid for years. We live paycheck to paycheck and could barely sustain the cost of living, let alone the additional cost of health care premiums and deductibles. Because my oldest son has autism, my daughter has seizures, and my youngest son has some behavioral issues, if it weren't for Medicaid, there's just no way I could have afforded to send them to the specialists they see or get them the tests and medications they have required. Those few hundred dollars a month were the reason my kids could get the care they need, and I have no idea where we would be without it. That's why I'm sharing my story today, Pat. I hope you'll take a look -- and then tell your senators and representatives in Washington you want them to protect our health care. The debate surrounding health care seems to be based on political, religious, and social ideologies, but it's none of those things. It's an issue of humanity and compassion. It's about building a better society as a whole. It's about people, not politics. We, the citizens, should be the driving force of the discussion. That means we have to show up. We have to go to the rallies and town halls, make calls, sign petitions, send emails, and talk to our friends and neighbors. It's our responsibility to make sure our representatives hear us and know where we stand when it comes to how they should be representing us. Add your name with mine, and call on our senators to protect our health care, not take it away: We're at a unique moment right now, and when my kids are adults -- when they ask me if I believed that everyone should have affordable health care and if I fought for it -- I want to be able to say I was on the right side of history. That's why I'm standing up and taking action, Pat. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for joining me. Krista Bordelon Louisiana | |
