I couldn't be more grateful

A marathoner can't start preparing the night before race day. That's why we're hard at work now building the infrastructure our Democratic presidential nominee will need to win in 2020.

I used to run marathons. And if there's one thing I learned from that, it's that a marathon isn't won in the moment -- it's won through the build-up and training that goes on for months and even years beforehand. The same is true for elections, Pat. A marathon runner can't start preparing the night before race day, which is why we're already hard at work building the party infrastructure our eventual Democratic presidential nominee will need to win in 2020. That's why I couldn't be more grateful for grassroots supporters like you who came together to help us reach our must-hit April goal. I realize that for many, it feels too early to think about 2020. So many of our supporters went above and beyond to power Democrats to our historic wins in 2018. I completely understand the temptation to take a breather. But I'm not exaggerating when I say that we must kick it into high gear right now to take back the White House and seats nationwide in 2020, Pat. Knowing that so many grassroots supporters like you were still able to recognize the urgency of this moment and answer our call -- even if you were still feeling spent from 2018 -- makes me feel even more positive about helping our eventual Democratic presidential nominee and hundreds of other Democrats up and down the ballot cross the finish line in 2020. No candidate, committee, or supporter can win 2020 alone. It's going to take all of us working together, doing what we can when we can, to make sure we're in the best position to defeat Donald Trump and win seats across the country. As we enter the next phase of the campaign, I'm excited to share with you the new and unprecedented ways that the DNC will be supporting our historic field of Democratic primary presidential candidates.
