I'm facing one of the toughest re-election fights of any Democratic senator this year, and here's why: My opponent, two-term governor Rick Scott, has already spent $14 million of his own money trying to buy my U.S. Senate seat. That's a shocking amount, but Scott has made a habit out of buying elections in Florida. In 2010, when he first ran for governor, he poured $75 million of his own money into his gubernatorial campaign and squeaked out a win by just one point. He pulled off another one-point win in 2014 by spending millions more of his own money. He's term-limited as governor this year, so he's set his sights on my Senate seat -- and it's clear that he'll spend whatever he thinks it'll take to win. Here's the thing: We can be outspent and still hold on to this seat. But we can't be outspent 10-to-1 and expect to win this race and take back the Senate for Democrats. You've contributed to support Democrats in the past. It's going to take grassroots Democrats like you to defend this critical Senate seat -- we can't flip the Senate without it. Will you chip in $10 again today to defend my Senate seat against Rick Scott and elect other Democrats nationwide this year? As governor, Rick Scott has refused to expand Medicaid, doled out tax cuts to corporations, slashed environmental regulations, and even ignores the reality of climate change. Not to mention, he endorsed Donald Trump and headed a super PAC to help him win in 2016. We must keep Rick Scott as far away from the Senate as possible, Pat. Americans deserve a Senate that will fight for affordable health care, help every student reach for the stars, protect our environment, and help create jobs that give every working family a better future.
