My first job out of college was in 2007 working on Barack Obama's campaign for president -- so I might have been a little spoiled as far as having a great person to work for. My husband, Kyle, and I went on to work in President Obama's administration -- that's where we met, actually. Kyle worked in President Obama's White House until the very end of his second term, and just before his presidency came to an end, he invited us to the Oval Office to say thank you. Here's a photo! Here's the thing about that moment, though: Most people in President Obama's position wouldn't have done what he did. There wasn't much time left in his presidency -- he could have been doing literally anything in the world at that point. But even still, he took the time to let my husband and I know that he appreciated us. That meant the world to my family and me, and I'll never forget it. President Obama was a great leader for the American people because he brings that level of thoughtfulness to everything he does -- he's always thinking about others, whether it's considering how a policy decision will affect people or spending time with his girls. Tomorrow is his birthday, and I'd like to ask you to join me in showing him that we're thinking of him. Sign the card to wish President Obama a happy birthday: All my best, Amanda Amanda Brown Lierman Political and Organizing Director Democratic National Committee P.S. President Obama is a wonderful boss -- he's exceptionally kind, caring, and generous to the people he works with. It's his birthday tomorrow, and I hope you'll join me in wishing him a happy birthday. |
