Friend -- Here's what I took away from last night's debate: These Republican presidential hopefuls have an uncanny ability to say all the ridiculous things they say with great authority. So let's take a minute to dive in and look at what they're actually proposing. Jeb Bush still thinks that George W. Bush's decision to take us to war based on intelligence we now know is false was a good idea, Marco Rubio stuck to his absurd denial that humans contributed to climate change and, not to be outdone, frontrunner Donald Trump launched into another rant about ending birthright citizenship and still can't quite figure out how the Constitution works. And let's not forget that many of them -- including the three U.S. Senators up on that stage last night -- are ready to shut down the government if we don't defund Planned Parenthood, which makes this crowd definitively worse for women than any group of GOP candidates I've ever seen. But I've got to say, it's a brilliant electoral strategy if their ultimate goal -- like ours -- is to elect Democrats. Any one of the Republican presidential hopefuls we heard from last night would be a disaster for America. They all want to roll back the progress we've made in growing our economy, in protecting a woman's right to make her own health care decisions, in establishing marriage equality as the law of the land, and everything else we've done to move this country forward over the past six and a half years. I'm completely invested in protecting all the progress that President Obama has made. I know you are too. And I'm also willing to bet that what you saw last night alarmed you as much as it did me. So, if you're ready to win the White House in 2016, then pitch in $10 or whatever you can to help us win this next election. It's why I'm as committed as ever to electing Democrats all across the country in 2016, and I know you are too. So thanks for being with me on this. It means so much. Dan Pfeiffer | |
