Pat,
The crisis we face underscores the necessity for real leadership in the White House. I know from firsthand experience that Joe Biden is up for the job. Joe's optimism and vision for America will get this country back on track and restore the soul of this nation, as he likes to say.
But Pat, we should never for a moment assume that getting him back to the White House will be easy. So, I'm doing everything I can to make sure that Joe and Democrats up and down the ballot will have the resources they need to win on November 3. And what they raise right now in these early months will determine whether or not they have the resources they need for those final, difficult months.
That's why I'm reaching out today. Joe and my friends at the DNC have an important end-of-month deadline coming up, and I'd hate to see them fall short. Can I count on you to split a $10 donation between them today?
For decades, Joe brought change to Washington, but Washington never changed him. Because Joe Biden is, simply put, a unifier. It's who he is, it's who he has been since he was a scrappy kid from Scranton. He brings everyone to the table; it's what he was raised to do.
Picking Joe Biden as my vice president was the first big decision I made as a nominee. And Pat, it was the best one.
He has the foreign policy know-how to think fast on his feet, world leaders know him and respect him, and I was always glad to have his expertise by my side in the Situation Room.
More importantly, he understands what people are going through right now. He's walked in our shoes. As a kid, he had to leave Scranton while his dad changed jobs to keep his family afloat. As a single dad, he took the train to and from Washington to tuck his own boys in at night. He knows that life can shatter with a single phone call, and that's why he's always made decisions with people going through their toughest times in mind.
I can't wait to get out there and campaign for Joe and Democrats up and down the ballot. I'm going to roll up my sleeves and get to work every day. I hope you'll join me, and I hope you'll start with splitting a $10 donation between Joe Biden and the DNC today. Democrats up and down the ticket are depending on you.
Out of this crisis, we can build a more just, more generous, more democratic America where everybody has a fair shot at opportunity. But that all depends on the work we put in now to make Joe our next president.
Let's get to work,
Barack Obama
