I'm still fired up - are you?

Next Tuesday, January 12th, I'm going to address the nation in my final State of the Union -- and I am as fired up for the year ahead as I've ever been. And it's all because of what we've accomplished together over my time in this office.

Seven years ago, we were looking at an economy that was losing 800,000 jobs a month, a health care system that allowed too many Americans to slip through the cracks, and a reality where we as a nation were doing nothing to combat climate change.

Today, we've cut our unemployment rate in half, down to 5 percent. The Affordable Care Act has now provided health insurance for more than 17 million Americans. The Environmental Protection Agency is regulating carbon pollution, and with countries the world over, we've agreed on a framework that will allow us to confront the climate crisis.

This progress would not be possible without you -- that's why I need you to add your name to say you'll be by my side for this final stretch:

We've got some unfinished business -- starting with the real, concrete steps to protect our kids from gun violence that I announced a few days ago. Thanks for standing with me on this today and every day. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but I know we can accomplish some remarkable things together over these next 12 months.

Barack Obama

P.S. -- Tonight, I'll be discussing this very issue, and the new actions we're taking to make our communities safer from gun violence, on CNN at 8:00 p.m. ET. Tune in to join the conversation.
