Follks, we don't know which party will control the House or the Senate yet. We didn't expect to have an answer on Tuesday night, and it sounds like we won't know for a little while longer. But I wanted to take a minute to send you an email.
It's clear to me that grassroots donations from this team made a tremendous impact on Tuesday night.
While we're still waiting for all the results to come in, here's what we already know: Tuesday was a good day for democracy and a good day for America. And it's because of every single one of you.
You all donated your hard-earned time and money this midterm election cycle, and I could not be more grateful. I hope you'll give me a moment to explain exactly what you made possible:
-
Because of you, the DNC was able to invest heavily on the ground earlier than ever before. In 2018, we invested just $30 million on the ground -- this year we spent three times that. We invested nearly $90 million into states, organizing programs, voter protection, and Democratic staff across the country. That's incredible!
-
Because of you, we were able to make a historic investment in voter protection work. Working with our sister committees and state parties, Democrats were able to have Voter Protection Directors in 25 states and more than 100 total voter protection staff on the ground nationwide ahead of Election Day 2022. A powerful program that no doubt protected and mobilized many voters.
-
Because of you, we also were able to share our message directly with voters as early as last March. We ensured voters knew what President Biden and Democrats had accomplished. We made investments on the ground in organizing and mobilizing supporters around key moments, from the ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, to the president's signing of the Inflation Reduction Act. Ahead of Election Day, we made a historic eight-figure investment in advertising efforts online and media directed at voters who were key to our winning coalition this midterm election cycle. Let me be crystal clear, nearly the entirety of our paid media work to communicate Democratic accomplishments and draw contrasts with Republicans went into core Democratic communities and communities of color.
I could go on and on, but the common denominator for all of our investments is the early and frequent support of this grassroots team. As we await the final results, I hope you feel proud and hopeful. I know that I do.
I also need you to know that our fight -- both this year and in the years ahead -- is far from over. While we've made incredible strides, I am counting on this team to continue to invest in the programs that will elect Democrats in years to come. We are strong, but lasting political power means we have to get right back to the work at hand. So, I have to ask:
Will you make your first donation of the year to the DNC to help our party build on our progress in the coming months and years?
Thanks for everything you've done and will continue to do. It means a lot to me and to everyone at DNC HQ.
More soon!
Sam
