Last Wednesday, House Republicans voted along party lines to pass a nationwide ban on abortions after 20 weeks -- a completely arbitrary move that ignores medical precedent for the sake of appeasing fringe members of their base. Then on Friday, the Trump administration rolled back the Affordable Care Act mandate that requires employers to cover birth control for their employees. Enough. It's been over 40 years since the Supreme Court issued its landmark Roe v. Wade decision. Since then, we've worked to empower women instead of limiting their options. Medical professionals have produced long-acting and oral contraceptives that are safer and more reliable than ever before. And thanks to the Affordable Care Act, more than 55 million American women have cost-free access to birth control -- saving women an average of $250 per year. But conservatives in Congress, statehouses across the country, and now the White House are obsessed with taking us backward. They've convinced themselves that their beliefs about what a woman should do with her body are more important than freedom as it has been defined by our country's courts and laws. We have to fight back. I'm absolutely proud to toe the line with Democrats who will do whatever it takes to protect women's rights, Pat.
