Friend -- I love my job, but watching the absurdity of the Republican presidential primary takes me back to my days as chair of the Democratic Party. I'd love to see the crack team of researchers at DNC HQ in action tonight as the Republican presidential hopefuls take the stage once again for a debate that will showcase their loose relationship with facts and reality. As much fun as it can be to watch the circus that is these GOP debates, what we've been hearing from their frontrunners is nothing to take lightly. While Donald Trump may be grabbing the headlines with his inflammatory rhetoric and deeply disturbing policies (like a ban on all Muslims entering the U.S.), the rest of the pack is matching him stride for stride -- whether it's Ted Cruz and Jeb Bush proposing religious tests for refugees or Marco Rubio saying that closing down mosques wouldn't go far enough. And here's the kicker: One of the folks on stage tonight will be the Republican nominee for president. We simply can't afford to let any one of them follow President Obama into the Oval Office. This is not only about protecting the progress we've made, but also fighting for the future we want for our country and electing leaders who understand that America is already great -- but there is so much more we can do together. It's so important that we have committed supporters like you holding Republicans accountable. So before tonight's debate, add your name to say you're with us: http://my.democrats.org/Elect-Democrats I'm so glad you're on our team. Thanks for everything. Terry McAuliffe | |
