The Republican Congress is going to try and get away with anything they can with Donald Trump as president. So it's up to us as Democrats to hold them accountable: Friend -- The new Congress hadn't even been sworn in, and House Republicans had already started their shady business by trying to gut the Office of Congressional Ethics. Thanks to our Democratic leadership in Congress and thousands of supporters like you who tweeted, signed our petition, and got on the phone with your representatives to put House Republicans on notice, they have put aside their plan... for now. If this is any indication of how the 115th Congress is going to be, we've got our work cut out for us. We have to spend the next two years not only fighting back against the GOP and their agenda, but also gearing up for midterm elections next year so we can take back control of Congress. This is a collective effort, and we cannot do any of this without your support. Add your name to say that you're standing with us and ready to fight: http://my.democrats.org/Hold-Congress-Accountable Thanks, Donna Donna Brazile Chair Democratic National Committee |

Tell your health care story
Our first fight of 2017
![]() |
Democrats are gearing up to protect our progress and fight for affordable health care. Help us today by sharing your story about how the Affordable Care Act has impacted your life. Friend -- When it comes to the impact the Affordable Care Act has had on us as Americans, as usual, President Obama put it best: "what we are talking about is no longer just a law. It's no longer just a theory... This is now part of the fabric of how we care for one another." As of this week, Republicans are now in a position to start pulling at the strings of that fabric -- and if they get their way, it's going to unravel to the point that tens of millions of Americans will lose the health care they've come to depend on, and all of us are going to feel the impact. It's up to us to speak out about why we're fighting for it. Whether it's women who are no longer charged higher premiums than men, people with chronic conditions who are no longer being turned away by insurers, twenty-somethings who are able to stay on their parents' insurance a little longer, or countless others, Obamacare has touched all our lives in one way or another. It's on us to share our stories so that the GOP can maybe understand just what is hanging in the balance when "repealing" doesn't come along with a plan to "replace" and people lose coverage. Will you share your story about how Obamacare has touched your life, or forward this to a friend, family member, or neighbor who might want to share theirs? http://my.democrats.org/Health-Care-Story Thanks so much. Add your name to stand with Democrats to protect our progress and fight for affordable health care. Here's an important number to remember as Congress heads back to work this week: 65,844,610. That's the number of Americans who voted for a progressive vision of the future -- that includes keeping and expanding affordable health care. It's also 2.9 million more Americans than the number who voted for the Trump agenda of taking away your health care while paying for tax cuts for the rich. And yet, starting this week, Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are going to hit the ground running on their efforts to repeal Obamacare, even before Donald Trump takes the Oath of Office on January 20th. They may claim they have a mandate, but this is not what the majority of Americans voted for. Add your name if you're one of them and are committed to joining the fight to protect the progress we made under President Obama, especially when it comes to affordable health care. And here's a few other numbers to keep in mind: repealing the Affordable Care Act would cost as many as 30 million Americans their health insurance. A nonpartisan analysis also showed that once the GOP's "repeal" plan goes through and they fail to come up with an actual plan to "replace," nearly 59 million people could be uninsured by 2019 -- a higher uninsured rate than when the ACA was passed in 2010. Donald Trump campaigned on promises to help the middle class, and right now we're seeing just how empty those promises were. The GOP's actions are going to do the exact opposite -- but as Democrats we're going to do everything we can to fight back, and that work starts today. Say you're standing with us: http://my.democrats.org/Protect-Health-Care Thanks, Eric Eric Walker Deputy Communications Director Democratic National Committee |

VICTORY (for now) against Republican corruption in Congress
The GOP held a secret vote to dismantle the Office of Congressional Ethics
![]() |
| Big news: Republicans tried to sneak through a major dismantling of congressional ethics oversight late last night. But Democratic leaders and thousands of grassroots supporters spoke out, and the GOP is backing off -- for now. This doesn't change the fact that House Republicans' very first action in 2017 was an attempt to make it easier to get away with corruption. And they've already indicated that they'll try to implement these changes again, when they hope fewer people like us will be paying attention. We're counting on you to help us keep the pressure on. Can you pitch in $10 or more right now so we have the resources we need to stop the GOP? If you've saved your payment information, your donation will go through immediately. Add your name right now to tell House Republicans you won't stand for corruption. Friend -- -- Late last night, House Republicans held a secret vote to effectively eliminate the Office of Congressional Ethics -- hours before the new Republican-led Congress is sworn in. The Office of Congressional Ethics was created as an independent body to investigate congressional corruption in the aftermath of an illegal lobbying scandal that ended with three members of Congress being sent to jail. Now, instead of being independent, the office will report to a GOP-controlled House committee. It won't be able to accept anonymous tips or report any information to the public. Just to drive home the point, Republicans even stripped the word "ethics" from the office's name. And these last-minute changes were orchestrated by a group of Republicans, several of whom have been the targets of ethics investigations. Republicans need to know we're not going to let their corruption run rampant through Congress.
