The one chart that shows how we can win back the House

Democrats
Friend --

We defied some pretty big trends in this past election:
  • For the first time in almost four decades, the winning candidate in Virginia's governor's race is from the same party as the president.
  • For the first time in more than twenty years, we elected a Democratic mayor of New York City.
  • In St. Petersburg, Florida we defeated an incumbent Republican mayor, the first time that's happened in two decades.
  • In Pasco County, Florida, we won a special election for a legislative seat that had been held by Republicans for nearly twenty years.
At one point or another, the cynics and the pundits looked at all of those races, pointed to the history, and said Democrats didn't have much of a chance. But because supporters like you stepped up, we proved them wrong.

So when people tell you that Democrats can't take back the 17 seats that we need to win back the House, don't get mad -- get to work and prove them wrong, as well.

Chip in $3 or more and let's go elect a Democratic House.

If you look at Tuesday's exit polls from Virginia -- a swing state -- you see an electorate that looked a lot like the one that showed up to vote for President Obama in 2012. A lot of pundits were saying that would never happen, too.

Load image to see the big news from Election Day.

Recent polling shows Democrats up in 48 congressional races that we need to win 17 of in order to take back the House. If we can do across the country what we did in Virginia -- get our Democratic coalition to show up on Election Day -- we could be in for a good night next November.

But that won't happen unless we stand together to put winning plans into action.

Chip in $3 or more to help Democrats seize this moment and invest in talent, tools, and candidates who are going to keep this momentum going:

Thank you, so much

Friend --

One year ago, all of our hard work and sacrifice paid off, and we made sure Barack got a second term as president to finish the work all of us started together.

I didn't just support him because he's my husband -- I supported him because I believe in his vision to lead this country forward and create a better future for our two girls.

Everyone who stood with Barack had their own reasons for doing so, whether it was to rebuild an economy that works for the middle class, to follow through on the promise of affordable health care, or to improve access to higher education. We all had something that drove us, and we came together to get the job done.

But just as none of us could elect Barack on our own, he can't finish the job by himself. He needs leaders in Congress and in state capitals around the nation to help him continue moving our country forward.

So today, a year after Barack was elected to his second term, I'm renewing my commitment to support a group of leaders who share Barack's values. I hope you will join me in putting your support behind Democrats in the year to come:

http://my.democrats.org/Fired-Up

Thank you for your faith in us, last year and in the years ahead,

Michelle

P.S. -- I'm still fired up, and I'm still ready to go. Are you?

Update on election night

Democrats
Friend --

Results are still coming in, but we already know it's going to be a good night for Democrats.

We know that Terry McAuliffe is going to be the next governor of Virginia and Bill de Blasio is going to be the first Democratic mayor of New York City since 1993. Both of these wins are a big deal, and they only happened because of hard work and months of support from people like you.

We'll keep you posted as more results become final, but right now, take a moment to pat yourself on the back. Congratulate the Democrats who won tonight:

Thanks,

Laura

Decisions are made by those who show up. That is never truer than on Election Day. And in New York, people like you have some important decisions to make.

The polls open tomorrow morning, which means it's time to step up, make a plan for how you're going vote, and stick to it.

Big news:

Democrats
Friend --

I wanted to be sure that the person I picked to be my right hand in leading Democrats through the upcoming midterm election was up for the job, because the importance of this moment can't be underestimated.

That's why I'm so proud and excited to welcome Amy Dacey as the new chief executive officer for the Democratic Party. And I'm hoping you can join me in welcoming her to our team.

Load image to welcome Amy Dacey.
Amy brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and insight to the job. Most recently, she was the executive director of EMILY's List. During her time there, EMILY's List increased its membership by 500%, raised more money per cycle than any time in the organization's history, expanded its recruitment program, and helped elect a historic number of women to Congress. Amy knows how to do what Democrats do best -- include all voters in the electoral process and work toward effective, progressive change.

Across the country, Democrats like you have been stepping up in record numbers, and in Washington we're continuing to recruit top talent to continue building out our organization.

Amy is exactly the right person to harness this energy and lead us into a successful 2014 campaign season.

Join me, sign Amy's card to welcome her on board, and let her know you're ready to get started:

Even though I won't be on a ballot again

Friend --

When the government shutdown ended 15 days ago, I made one thing clear to Republicans. If they want different leadership from the White House, they should go win an election.

I want to tell you what I meant by that.

A few extreme Republicans in Congress -- one faction of one party in one branch of government -- shouldn't hijack our economy in an attempt to force through a failed, partisan agenda. That's not how our system works -- and that's not a precedent we can abide.

Stand with me, and support Democrats who know that elections -- not shutdowns -- are the way to change Washington.

If members of Congress and their constituents don't like a policy, they can argue for their side. They can debate other candidates, lay out their plan, and let the voters decide. That's how our elections -- and our democracy -- are supposed to work.

And if we want to make sure that Congress is focused on things that matter, we need more lawmakers who share that fundamental belief -- and we're going to need your support to make that happen.

Even though I won't be on a ballot again, I'm asking you to stand with me and support fellow Democrats who will. Help fix the broken system in Washington by electing a Congress that will keep our economy moving forward, not shut it down.

Commit to supporting Democrats in 2014 today:

http://my.democrats.org/Win-An-Election

Thanks,

Barack
