Dear Stephen Colbert, |
You told the truth. You made us laugh when it was hard to even smile. You held power to account when others backed down. |
Now, CBS has caved to Donald Trump... again. |
They paid him $16 million to settle a lawsuit over a "60 Minutes" interview -- not to protect journalism, but to appease a man who's spent years attacking it. And when you called it what it was, "a big fat bribe," they canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. |
Let's be crystal clear: this wasn't just a network decision. It was political. It was cowardly. And it was a direct attack on free speech and fearless comedy that speaks truth to power. |
You've never shied away from telling it like it is. Whether it was mocking Trump's ego, skewering authoritarian hypocrisy, or defending democracy with sharp wit and brutal honesty, you've been a voice we could count on. A voice Trump has always wanted to silence. |
Well, we're not letting him. Not now. Not ever. |
I'm sending this letter with countless others to say something loud and clear: we stand with Stephen Colbert. |
You can't put a price on integrity, and you've got it in spades. |
CBS may have canceled your show. But they can't cancel your voice. Or ours. |
Never. Back. Down. |
|
You have my unwavering support, |
