The promise I made

Our work is just getting started. But to keep building on the progress we've made, we need to win back the House majority and we must reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris.

In 2018, I became the youngest Black woman ever elected to serve in Congress -- almost 50 years to the day that Shirley Chisholm became the first Black woman ever elected to Congress. In my speech that night, I made a promise to my community and to myself that like Congresswoman Chisholm, I'd be "unbought and unbossed." More than four years later, I'm proud to have kept that promise. In my first two terms, I've had 14 pieces of legislation signed into law focused on improving the lives of people in Illinois and across the country. Over these last few years, we've passed historic legislation to lower the cost of insulin, reduce health care costs and premiums, improve maternal health care for our veterans, and help save moms' lives. Our work is just getting started. But to keep building on the progress we've made, we need to win back the House majority, and we must reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris to keep leading our country forward.
