This was President Biden's first state visit. It underscored the deep relationship between the United States and France, our oldest ally, that is founded on our shared democratic values, economic ties, and defense and security cooperation. The leaders discussed our continued close partnership on shared global challenges and areas of bilateral interest. WATCH HERE RESPECT FOR MARRIAGE ACT The House recently passed the Respect for Marriage Act to enshrine marriage equality protections into federal law with unanimous Democratic support. President Biden said he will promptly and proudly sign the Respect for Marriage Act into law and reaffirmed that Americans should have the right to marry the person they love. For millions of Americans, this legislation will safeguard the rights and protections to which LGBTQI+ and interracial couples and their children are entitled. READ PRESIDENT BIDEN'S STATEMENT PRESIDENT BIDEN'S ECONOMIC PLAN With President Biden's economic plan in place, gas prices are now at their cheapest since Russia invaded Ukraine, inflation has moderated, incomes grew in October, and our economy has grown at an even stronger pace from July to September. We are seeing initial signs that we are making progress in tackling inflation, even as we make the transition to more steady, stable economic growth. President Biden promised to lower everyday costs for the American people and give middle-class families a little more breathing room, and it's clear he's fulfilling that promise.
