Women have been at the forefront of history creating the change they want to see, in ways both big and small.
As we celebrate and commemorate groups of women who fought for justice like the suffragettes, marchers, and pioneers, we must remember and uplift those whose names aren't known to millions as well. The women whose shoulders we stand on every day.
The mothers who work multiple jobs to make ends meet, paying bills, packing lunches, helping with homework, and shuttling their children to extracurriculars. The women activists across our country speaking out and using their voices to fight for equal access in education, health care, and ensuring women have a seat at the table. The frontline workers -- a majority of whom are women -- who have risked their health throughout this pandemic to protect us; the doctors and nurses, principals and teachers, grocery store workers and small business owners. The list goes on and on.
We owe these women so much, and together with President Biden, Democrats have been working around the clock for women, workers, and families.
Through the American Rescue Plan, Democrats delivered immediate relief to women and families, lowered health care premiums, funded domestic violence and sexual assault services, supported child care providers, and invested in care workers -- who are disproportionately women of color.
Through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we are working to ensure equitable access to good-paying jobs, particularly in sectors where women have historically been underrepresented.
We are confronting the epidemic levels of violence that transgender women and girls continue to face. We are working to expand access to health care, including reproductive health care, for all people regardless of race, ethnicity, income, or ZIP code. We are fighting to lower the costs of child care and provide access to free preschool for all three- and four-year-olds.
And we're just getting started. Joe and I will never waver in our commitment to ensure equity and justice for women everywhere.
I know that there are millions of Americans across the nation and globe who have women in their lives they count on and rely on. Women who, no matter what, always seem to balance an unimaginable amount, but still make sure they're there for others. Women who see the potential of this country and donate their time, money, and energy to fight for it.
This Women's History Month, let us take a moment to celebrate those women who may not have their names in the history books, but deserve a space nonetheless.
Thank you,
Kamala
