We have less than a week before voters in Virginia and New Jersey choose their next governors, so now is a crucial time to support Democrats. Right now, we're making critical decisions about how many staffers to deploy and how much help to give to state parties -- and how much we can raise before the midnight deadline tonight will play a big part in our final decisions. People are going to be watching what Virginians, Garden Staters, and voters in other states across the country with down-ballot elections do next Tuesday. Make sure we're sending a good message. Chip in $3 or more before midnight tonight to make sure Democrats have all they need during their final push: https://my.democrats.org/Invest-To-Win Thanks, Debbie Debbie Wasserman Schultz Chair Democratic National Committee P.S. -- You don't want to wake up next Wednesday and wish you had done more to support our candidates. Hit them where it hurts
Hey - let's spook the Tea Party
Friend -- One month ago, many people laughed at the idea that Democrats could take back the House in 2014. But today, because of what you've done to hold Republicans accountable, polls show that 37 Congressional swing seats are in play -- and we only need to win back 17 of those. Help improve those chances even more by chipping in $3 or more before midnight's deadline: https://my.democrats.org/Invest-To-Win Thanks, Debbie Debbie Wasserman Schultz Chair Democratic National Committee P.S. -- We need to stay energized over the next twelve months if we want to elect a Democratic Speaker of the House. Help keep this momentum going today. |

1̶7̶ 37 seats
I wanted to give you an update on this email that we sent a few weeks ago, because we continue to get new information. The poll we described below has been updated, and it now shows Democrats leading in 37 districts. And remember, we need to win 17 seats to take back the House, elect a Democratic Speaker, and give President Obama a Congress he can work with. We have a real shot to do just that -- but we need to keep at it. Chip in $10 or more to support Democrats and take back the House: https://my.democrats.org/Momentum Thanks, Laura Laura Santucci Acting Executive Director Democratic National Committee ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Democraticparty@democrats.org Date: Wednesday, October 9, 2013 |

How we stop another shutdown:
Friend -- I thought that once the government shutdown was over, we could move on and get down to business. But some Republicans in Congress have other ideas. Ted Cruz and his Tea Party allies have said they are looking forward to the next chance to shut down the government again. To them, this was a missed opportunity, and they want a second chance. They forced a $24 billion hit to our economy, saw cancer patients turned away from clinical trials, delayed paychecks to hard-working Americans, and embarrassed the entire country. I don't view that as the framework of a very good strategy -- but then again, I'm not being pressured by special interest groups to put Tea Party ideology over the American people. I thought that once the government shutdown was over, we could move on and get down to business. But some Republicans in Congress have other ideas. These guys are hearing a lot from the extreme right-wing of their party. Let's make sure they're also hearing your voice. Call on Republicans to stop governing by crisis today. Shutting down the government isn't what the American people sent their representatives to Washington to do -- and I think we need to remind them of that fact. Make it happen. Speak up today: http://my.democrats.org/Team-2014 Thanks, Debbie Debbie Wasserman Schultz Chair Democratic National Committee |

Let's beat the guy who sued to end Obamacare
Friend -- Despite what you might hear from the media, the next election isn't in 2016 or 2014. In Virginia, it's just 22 days away, and there's a lot on the line. My close friend Terry McAuliffe is running for governor (he'll be a great one!) against a guy who's really out there. Ken Cuccinelli took legal action against one of the country's best universities (which happened to be his OWN client) because he disagreed with a study on climate change research. He's one of those people who still doesn't believe in global warming. Oh, and he was the first person in the United States to sue the federal government to overturn the Affordable Care Act. This is one of the races where we need to do everything we can now. Please donate $3 or more to help us elect Democrats like Terry McAuliffe and protect the progress we've made together. Many of the same people working to undermine the President's agenda are spending millions trying to prop up Cuccinelli's campaign. We've seen what a small group of Republicans backed by very wealthy special interest groups can do. They're making it harder for poor folks to vote in Texas. They're trying to nullify federal laws they don't agree with in Mississippi. And they've forced an unnecessary and damaging government shutdown -- something I hoped never to see again. So here's what we have to do -- we need to fight in all of these battles, we need to win this election, elect Terry McAuliffe, and send this powerful message: They want to repeal the Affordable Care Act. We want it to work. We don't want to make it harder to vote. We want every American to be able to participate. And we don't want to keep the government shut down. We want it to be open for business so our economy can grow. Please chip in $3 or more to help us work for Terry McAuliffe and Democrats around the country: https://my.democrats.org/VA-Gov Let's go, Bill Clinton

"Lemmings with suicide vests"
Friend -- It's been 13 days since the Republicans shut down our government, and now Washington is starting to see that people like you are holding them directly accountable for this colossal failure of leadership. It's not just that the GOP is staring at their worst poll numbers in modern history. It's not just that citizens are setting up websites to make it easy for anyone to call them and voice their complaints. It's that people like you are stepping forward to make a personal investment in this fight. So far, 816,873 people like you have stood with President Obama and told Speaker Boehner, Ted Cruz, and the rest of the Republican establishment to reopen the government and accept Obamacare as the law of the land. So far, 33,934 of you have chipped in and taken ownership of the fight to win back the House from John Boehner and his Tea Party allies. And if you don't believe that makes a difference, look no further than Sen. Mitch McConnell who is running ads back home in Kentucky to try and explain himself. Look no further than one conservative House Republican who has taken to comparing his GOP colleagues to "lemmings with suicide vests." We're putting the pressure on them, and it's clear they're feeling it. But we can't let up now. Chip in $3 or more to keep our momentum going. The next few weeks couldn't be more important. Democrats in Congress will continue to try to reopen the government and prevent Republicans from shutting down the economy, too. Democrats in New Jersey are working to make Cory Booker and Barbara Buono their next senator and governor, respectively. And in Virginia, Terry McAuliffe and his team are widening their lead against the extreme Ken Cuccinelli. We will look back at this moment as having been a turning point -- and what you do today can make sure that history remembers this moment as a defeat for those who have held the government hostage to keep Americans from accessing affordable health care. Well, we struck a nerve
Friend -- Republicans are continuing to dig in over the shutdown and argue that they're winning the debate over the direction of the country. So here's what we did: We started calling people in Kentucky, Ohio, Texas, Florida, and other states across the country to tell them how they could get in touch with the Republicans who brought on the shutdown. We started running ads online telling voters how they could speak out. And it seems to have struck a nerve. Republicans are suddenly buying ads of their own to strike back, because they're hearing from a LOT of angry constituents -- and they're starting to panic. To me, that means one thing: These guys know that the only people who are damaged by this shutdown even worse than the millions of people who rely on a functioning government are themselves. Chip in $3 or more today. We need to continue giving voters a way to let the GOP know how they feel: https://my.democrats.org/Keep-It-Up Thanks, Mo Mo Elleithee Communications Director Democratic National Committee |

An email from me won't do the trick
Friend -- Let me tell you what Speaker Boehner won't: He could end the shutdown any time he wants. Right now, today, there are enough votes in the House of Representatives to pass a bill that gets the government up and running without any of this nonsense about repealing Obamacare. So why are we here? Because House Republicans were determined to pick another fight over Obamacare, and the Speaker won't tell them that their fun is over and that they need to grow up. So join the Democrats, and tell John Boehner that it's time to end the government shutdown. Absurd doesn't begin to describe this situation. Hundreds of thousands of government employees are stuck at home and the national parks are closed. The FDA's not checking meat for contamination, the CDC has halted monitoring the flow of infectious diseases, and children aren't getting cancer treatments from the NIH. Soon our veterans won't be getting benefits. And yet, a majority of our lawmakers are ready to vote for a budget resolution that the President will sign. I know how crazy this is, and so do you. But it looks like Speaker Boehner will need a little help to reach that conclusion. And I don't think an email from me is going to do the trick. Which is exactly why we need Americans from all across the country to help bring this madness to an end. Stand with the Democrats today: http://my.democrats.org/Just-Vote Thanks for all you do, Donna Brazile
