Read why the Affordable Care Act matters to Gerry, and then say you're in to defend it: ADD YOUR NAME To all of you out there who are willing to fight back: One day, in November of 2006, I went to see my doctor because of unbearable back pain. The doctor suggested that I get a routine checkup just to make sure that everything was ok -- but, a few days later, I received a call telling me to come back to the doctor's office as soon as possible. When I arrived, my doctor sat me down and told me that I had stage four prostate cancer that had spread to my bones. Because it was caught so late, it was too late for standard treatment. My only option was to participate in an experimental trial. I was told to stop work immediately to focus on battling my disease, but I could not afford to and went to working part-time instead. Although I was enrolled in Medicare, I needed supplemental health insurance to pick up what Medicare didn't. I applied for everything under the sun but was rejected time and time again because my cancer was considered a pre-existing condition. But that all changed with the Affordable Care Act. Suddenly, insurance companies could no longer deny me or others coverage because of pre-existing conditions like cancer -- and I was finally able to purchase a supplemental insurance plan. If the Affordable Care Act is repealed, I will lose my health insurance. Without it, because I cannot afford to pay out-of-pocket for expensive cancer treatments or new experimental drugs, I will likely die. Although I am not cured of cancer, I am thankful that the Affordable Care Act is giving me a chance to fight. I wish every day that I had gone to the doctor sooner -- if I had gone for a checkup even when I didn't think I needed to, maybe then I would have caught my cancer in time. That's one of the things that worries me the most about the attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act: the possibility that free cancer screenings will stop. It keeps me up at night thinking about all the people who also won't have the opportunity to catch their cancer in time because they won't be able to see a doctor for a screening that is no longer free. I am just one of millions of Americans whose life has been saved because of the Affordable Care Act. To take it away now would be catastrophic for us all. Please join me and other Democrats in the fight to save the ACA. The more people in this fight, the more people can keep their health insurance. The Trump administration is dangerous for women

The Trump-Pence administration is on track to be the most dangerous for women in history. Pitch in today to help Democrats fight back. DONATE Friend -- Today, Mike Pence became the first sitting vice president to address the "March for Life," an annual anti-choice rally in Washington, D.C. He told the crowd, "Life is winning again in America." This is another one of this administration's trademark "alternative facts" -- their policies are going to lead to more abortions and more women dying from being denied life-saving health care. Period. With this kind of ally in the White House, it's no wonder conservatives looking to overturn Roe v. Wade and roll back women's rights across the board are so fired up. In its first week alone, we've seen the Trump-Pence administration and House Republicans: Reinstate the "global gag rule," banning federal funding for international organizations that even provide information about abortions to women. Pass a bill to make the Hyde Amendment -- which bans federal funds to pay for abortions or even subsidize them via private insurance, disproportionately affecting low-income women -- permanent law. Make moves to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which has helped millions of women by no longer allowing them to be discriminated against with higher premiums than men and made life-saving preventative care more accessible. Read why the Affordable Care Act matters to Liz, and then say you're in to defend it: ADD YOUR NAME Fellow Democrat -- When I was 31 years-old, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I was fortunate to be able to receive treatment -- and have been in remission for decades -- but I was told that I would remain uninsurable for the rest of my life. Even though I had conquered my cancer, I now had a pre-existing condition. I thought I had fought my battle and won, but I soon realized that surviving my disease was only the first of many struggles. I faced lapses in coverage for years. I remember having a severe reaction to a medication and, without health insurance, had nowhere to turn. I survived only because of the generosity of a local doctor who treated me at no charge. Without his act of kindness, I would not be here today. Nobody should have to rely on random acts of kindness to receive life-saving health care. Those of us with pre-existing conditions are the people who need access to quality health care the most, yet we are the ones who all too often are shut out of the system and left to fend for ourselves. That is why I am so grateful for the Affordable Care Act. I have lived every day happier and healthier knowing that people like me can no longer be rejected by health insurance companies. I'm sharing my story with you today in the hope that it will inspire you to get involved to help save the Affordable Care Act, and to remind you of how vital it is for millions of Americans like me.
