Happy spring, Pat. It's been a while since we checked in, so I thought I'd share some of what's been on my mind, along with a few things I've read and loved.
First, I'm sure that many of you have read the nearly unbelievable account by Jeff Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, of being added to a group chat where senior White House officials were planning an attack on the Houthi militia in Yemen. The hypocrisy of all these men who spent years shouting about IT security is astounding, but to focus on that would be missing the point. There is a much larger issue here that goes far beyond the group chat. They are playing a dangerous game when it comes to our national security. And it's just dumb. I don't say that lightly. But there is no other word for it. So I wrote about it in Friday's New York Times. I hope you'll take a look.
I also can't recommend enough Heather Cox Richardson's fascinating newsletter on the history behind our politics. In particular, I loved this view on 15 years of the Affordable Care Act. At a time when the very act of remembering our history is under attack from one political party, it feels more important than ever to know how we got to where we are.
And last but certainly not least, I'm taking heart from this visualization of the rise of renewable energy sources around the globe.
This Women's History Month, I've also found myself thinking about the women I know who exemplify what it means to keep showing up -- like Representative Brittany Pettersen, who got on a plane from Colorado with her newborn son so that she could vote in person against the GOP's cruel budget after Congressional leaders denied her the option to vote remotely. And like my dear friend Nita Lowey, who was first elected to Congress at the age of 51 -- and would go on to spend more than three decades fighting for her constituents. She passed away this month, and I can't tell you how much I already miss her.
Progress, as they say, is possible but not guaranteed, and I'm so grateful to you for remaining a part of this work. Keep an eye on your inbox, Pat. I look forward to continuing this conversation in the months to come.
Onward!

Pat --
Right now, we're full steam ahead toward Election Day -- but we'd also hate to miss out on celebrating Hillary's birthday. She turns 77 on Saturday, and we're marking the occasion by collecting notes from friends and teammates like you.
Will you add your name and a note to Hillary's birthday card?
She loves to hear from members of this team about what you're thinking about these days, and your well-wishes mean so much to her. Take a second to add your name to her card, and we'll pass along your message on Hillary's birthday.
