Mad as hell

Democrats
Pacquiao --

New polls show that the approval ratings for Republicans who blocked a vote on background checks for gun sales have taken a huge dive.

And now, after spending millions of dollars to get Republicans to vote against background checks, the NRA is bankrolling radio ads to help boost their dwindling poll numbers.

The NRA's lobbyists think if they throw enough money around, they can get Republicans to vote however they want them to and protect them afterward -- it makes me mad as hell.

But they're forgetting that we've got 90 percent of Americans on our side -- and we're not backing down.

Show Congress that 90 percent of Americans matter more than the gun lobby: Help us collect 200,000 signatures in support of common-sense gun safety measures like background checks.

The NRA may have deep-pocketed donors, but -- as history has shown -- nothing can stand in the way of the American people calling for change.

We're close to our goal of 200,000 signatures demanding change to our gun laws.

Help us reach our goal. Add your name to the petition now:

Your voice can make a difference.

Thank Boston's first responders:

Democrats
Pacquiao --

My thoughts and prayers over the past week have been with the people of Boston.

As I've watched everything happening there, I've been completely awestruck by the first responders -- the police, firefighters, and EMTs who ran toward danger without hesitation to help those in peril.

Their courage and compassion is amazing to witness, and I'm grateful to live in a country where so many fine men and women commit their lives to protect and serve their fellow citizens.

After all they've done, I want them to know what it's meant to Americans like me. So I'm writing these first responders a simple note to say thanks -- and I'd like to invite you to join me.

Add your name to the note for Boston's first responders here.

Whether you want to say thanks, share a story about how the past week's events have affected you, or just let these public servants know that you've been thinking about them, I know they'd appreciate hearing from you.

We'll collect every note we get and deliver them to Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Tom Menino so they can pass along your sentiments.

Join me, and say thanks to Boston's first responders:

Pacquiao, here's what you can do now:

Democrats
Pacquiao --

Yesterday, a minority in the Senate blocked an amendment to expand background checks on gun sales.

As the President said, it was a shameful day for Washington.

Ninety percent of Americans support background checks -- including a majority of gun owners -- but 90 percent of Republicans in the Senate caved to the NRA's lobbying machine and blocked the vote.

Tell the Senate to vote for the families of Newtown, not for the NRA's lobbyists. Add your name now.

The gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the proposed legislation, and yesterday they were able to defeat it.

But we are not backing down. Round one just ended. Round two starts now.

Help Democrats collect 200,000 signatures demanding action on background checks. Add your name now:

http://my.democrats.org/Reduce-Gun-Violence

Volunteers will deliver your signatures to the Capitol, so lawmakers know that the American people haven't given up.

Thanks for your dedication,

Debbie

Help close the books

Democrats
Pacquiao --

The Republican Party has a lot more money than we do right now.

We spent what we had to to win elections, but they're in the black, and we're not -- which means they're in a better position to build their organization going forward. As the chief operating officer, let me tell you, we need your help.

Despite our budget differences, I'd much rather be us than them. They can't change the results of last November's elections, but with your support, we can change our financial situation.

According to our records associated with this exact email address:

-- Total you've given online to the Democratic National Committee: $0.00
    -- Most recent donation: N/A
-- Most recent donation amount: N/A
    -- Suggested contribution today: $5

We're counting on supporters like you to help close the fundraising gap with Republicans, and we need to start right away.

Chip in $5 or more today and help us retire our debt.

I'm proud that last November, we held the White House, added seats in the Senate, and picked up seats in the House. We did everything we had to in order to make sure Democratic candidates across the country had the resources they needed to compete and win.

Because Republicans held back, they're in the black -- but they're not in the White House.

We won big last year. But we need to close our books so we can move on to the battles ahead.

Chip in today and help us build for the future:

Newtown deserves a vote

Forward This
Pacquiao --

Right now, a group of Republican senators are fighting to block popular, common-sense measures to reduce gun violence.

Make no mistake: These senators don't want to merely vote against the bill -- they want to actually prevent it from ever coming to a vote on the Senate floor.

They think you've stopped paying attention and that they can quietly deny the families of Newtown, Aurora, Oak Creek, and so many other communities across the country ripped apart by gun violence the simple up-or-down vote they deserve.

Show them you haven't forgotten: Watch and share this video.

Then ask your family and friends to add their name and demand that these senators allow a vote to happen:

Tremendous news

Pacquiao --

I'm excited to share some tremendous news from Maryland!

We just passed a comprehensive public safety package that will take major steps to reduce gun violence -- making our schools safer, and making it harder for dangerous people to acquire weapons.

This is going to make Maryland families safer -- but it wasn't an easy win.

An overwhelming majority of Marylanders supported these common-sense reforms, but that didn't stop the NRA and their deep-pocketed lobbyists and allies from doing everything they could to prevent our progress.

In Maryland, Democrats came together to get this done, but it won't happen nationally without your help.

Will you chip in $5 or more today to support Democrats who are fighting for these critical reforms?

I've spent my entire career -- as a prosecutor, city councilman, mayor, and now as governor -- focused on trying to keep families safe and reduce violent crime.

There's no way to completely eliminate the risk of another tragedy like the ones in Newtown, Aurora and Oak Creek, but that's no excuse for doing nothing. We should take the basic steps that we know will make families, neighborhoods, and communities safer.

We need Congress to follow Maryland's lead.

Chip in $5 or more today so that we have the resources to fight for these common-sense reforms that will save lives:

Thanks,

Martin

Martin O'Malley
Governor
Maryland

P.S. -- The lawmakers fighting against legislation to reduce gun violence have big-money interest groups fighting to keep them in power. Democrats are counting on you. Please chip in today.

Prove them wrong

Democrats
Pacquiao --

Yesterday, President Obama told an audience in Colorado that, "The only way this time will be different is if the American people demand that this time it must be different."

He's asked all Americans who support common-sense measures to prevent gun violence to speak up and make themselves heard.

Add your name to tell Congress to pass President Obama's plan to reduce gun violence.

President Obama's proposal is a common-sense approach to making sure guns stay out of the hands of dangerous people who put others at risk. Nine out of ten Americans -- including eight out of ten Republicans, and eight out of ten gun-owners -- support universal background checks for those purchasing a firearm.

But the other side is trying to run out the clock and change the subject. They want to drown out the majority of the American people. If they can delay long enough, they think you'll forget about it.

Prove them wrong.

Tell your representatives in Washington to take action:
