A proud day for me

Pacquiao -- Yesterday was a proud day for me. President Obama laid out steps to fix our badly broken immigration system. He addressed all facets of immigration reform: strengthening border security; a path to earned citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants who are already in the United States, including children who were brought here through no fault of their own; cracking down on companies hiring undocumented workers; and streamlining legal immigration. Reform is within our grasp. It'll grow our economy, and it'll make our nation stronger. But it won't be easy. Add your voice at this critical moment. Tell Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform. Yesterday the President said something that is important to keep in mind as you talk to friends and family about this: "Remember that this is not just a debate about policy. It's about people. It's about men and women and young people who want nothing more than the chance to earn their way into the American story." President Obama is counting on you

Pacquiao -- The President did something big last week. He proposed a set of major reforms to help protect our children and our communities by curbing gun violence, and he's already announced 23 executive actions that will go a long way in helping keep our kids safe. This is an important start -- but I have no illusions about what needs to be done and how difficult it will be. Every step we intend to take will preserve the tradition of responsible gun ownership in our country and uphold the Second Amendment. And while we'll never end gun violence entirely, if we can save the life of even one child, then we have a responsibility to act. This action includes not only what we can do, but what Congress can do. To make a real and lasting difference, they must act soon. The President has called on Congress to act on four specific legislative measures: closing background check loopholes, banning military-style assault weapons and limiting high-capacity ammunition magazines, making our schools safer, and increasing access to mental health services. Unbelievable

Pacquiao -- Republicans in Congress have already introduced several bills to limit a woman's ability to make her own health decisions -- all in the first 48 hours of the new session. Blatantly ignoring a clear message from voters in the 2012 elections, they hope to:     -- Block Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funds for family planning     -- Ban all abortions even in cases of rape and incest, and possibly go as far as banning some forms of birth control and in vitro fertilization     -- Repeal Obamacare Here's where you come in.
